What The Hell?

Friday, December 29, 2006

Ok, you asked for it. Here's the clip of me on Touched By An Angel.

I admit now, having watched it again for the first time in almost ten years, that my reaction is not as dramatic as I recall it being. It seems now that my "what the hell?" take was not much more than an overacted shrug. Though I do recall clearly doing a "what the hell?" version of the scene, I guess it was not what made it into the final version.

Also, It was not the old lady who interrupted the ceremony. As you'll see, it was Roma Downey who pissed on the festivities with a dove-delivered message straight from Gawd Himself. I wonder if he signed it Himself or if he used an autopen. Linda Kelsey was the actress having trouble with her very short line... the one about the gas company.

You'll have to watch all five minutes of the clip to see the infamous reaction. It comes at the end of the wedding as the wedding party rushes out after the sobbing bride. I include the entire wedding for a couple of reasons.

1. The chicks who played the bride, Brigid Brannagh, and her would-be sister-in-law, Holly Fields are hot, hot, hot. You never know when you might find yourself overboard and in need of something buoyant.

2. You'll recognize me at the very beginning of the clip as the groomsman to whom Della Reese first cues to begin the ceremony.

3. Note the uncanny moment when the preacher says, "God... and these witnesses". The pause he leaves for the Mormon viewer to fill in the word "angels" is almost too blatant to be a coincidence on the part of the writer or actor. "Touched" was very frequently and obviously written by a team of Salt Lake-based writers. I happen to recall that the actor who played the role was, at the time, an LDS Bishop and a very, very funny guy.

4. If anybody recognized the bridesmaid with the short, dark hair, and knows her name, phone number and current favorite flower, let me know. I've dreamed of running off with her for some years now.

And now, on with the show.

Hmm.

What the hell was in the freaking letter?

Funny with all the number of times I ran afoul of this show in SLC I've never once seen a minute of it.

The letter...

I have no idea what was in the letter. I don't remember that detail from the first time it aired and I haven't watched the episode beyond this clip since then :)

Really, the show is that unwatchable.

Unwatchable

Glad you said it so I didn't have to. I've decided that the letter was from the bride's doctor indicating that the final operation of her sex change would have to be delayed.

Remember that dude who posed as a woman back in the 90s? He trucked through a temple wedding as I recall and was married a couple of years before he was detected. Only a Mormon man wouldn't know his wife was really a dude.

Anyway I think such a letter would bring a whole new level of meaning to Touched by and Angel.

AWESOME!

This was my first taste of the show too...but geez if I had known how fine the acting was...well, I'd have been a fan much sooner!

Seriously, this is cool! You look like just a kid! Congrats on being *famous*!

A fan...

I was so much a fan of this show that I only watched this episode plus the other one I worked on as an extra and only my hair appeared in.

At the time, I was a kid. I'm fatter, saggier and balder now.

Heya

I saw you walk in at the beginning too.

I bet they were brother and sister huh.
Great find! You still look like an awkward teenager sometimes even now.

Yeah?

Yeah? Well, fuck you. :)

New Header

Hey, I love the new look! Happy New Year!

Today's Photo

  • My nephew is a pretty cool kid. That is, when he isn't throwing a tantrum or breaking something. Like his head. This is a very rare picture of him without a visible bruise, bandage or goose egg.

Like the Mona Lisa, there's a mystery behind his smile. To me, it's obvious why he's smiling. A smirk like that tells me he probably just set something on fire.
