Three Day Weekend
Monday, May 28, 2007
When I was a kid, I looked forward to Memorial Day every year. It didn't matter to me if it wasn't yet really warm enough for outdoor activities. This was my first good chance to get to Bear Lake, do some waterskiing and get that first base-coat of sunburn that you've just got to have if you're going to keep yourself properly crispy for the summer season.
This weekend, while I did get to family cabin at Bear Lake, it was only for part of the day Saturday... to install some storm doors. As an adult with kids of my own who trash... err... use the place, I feel somewhat obligated to help with the upkeep. Besides, the men on this side of the family are notorious for being useless in matters of home repair and other such manly things. Without me, the only work done on the place would be anything that could be done with flathead screwdriver and a thirty-year-old pair of slipjoint pliers.
I was reluctant to spent most of a precious day off away from Donna and the girls though I felt better about it when I discovered the form-fitting, red nylon Champion Spark Plug windbreaker in my grandfather's closet. That jacket is choice. It is also now mine. I may wear it to bed, it's that sexy.
A good part of the rest of the weekend has been spent hauling around the rest of the Immortal and Un-ending Pile Of Dirt™ to various locales around the yard. Whose idea was it to get this huge piece of property anyway?
Not that I haven't taken a little time to recreate. The community pool opened on Friday and the girls have been acting as if they grew up in an African village and have never even seen a swimming pool and oh can they please go to the pool, PUHLEASE. Being the good father, I relented. Whining will pretty much always get them their way.
We're taking bets on whose kid will end up floating, face-first in the pool and whether or not we can go one more summer without the inevitable fatality that seems to plague all community pools. My money is on that snotty-faced, redhead kid that always cries and can't keep his arm-floats inflated.
Don't worry, my girls are immune from drowning. They're much too smart and good looking to be naturally selected out of the gene pool.

I have been working hard to improve my depth of field as I shoot and a lot of the DOF effects you see are photographic. However, I make full use of photoshop for color-correction, alpha channel DOF effects and all kinds of other funness. Maybe sometime I'll run a tutorial on a few of the things I like to do.
Nice Photos
Good catch on the cannonball shot. What kind of camera do you have? I'm assuming you've got a digital SLR?
shack
that shack looks like the buildings where i live in montana!!!
Hello Everyone

Great Shots
These photos came out great. I do some photography as well. I was wondering if you got that much DOF just from the lens or did you use photoshop to add some blurring around your subjects?
