Try as I might I couldn't get Dave Fletcher to admit to randomly deleting Chris Buttars' email. Though, towards the end of the interview, after finally lulling him with my witty repartee, he did admit to once having been a bigot.

Oh Pete, I LOVE that you published that guy's IP address. Brilliant. Hilarious. I still sometimes find it hard to imagine that there are people out there that are THAT backwards. Urgh.

The downside

The downside is, Buttars really IS that backwards. Racism is not dead in this country. It's just hidden. Until the generation of baby boomers that think the 1950s was the "golden era" die off, we're stuck with their barely-concealed disdain for equality and human rights.
Only if you were a white, middle-class, heterosexual male in the USA were the 1950s a wonderful time. The John Birch-loving bourgeois of upper-class aspiring Utah suburbanites are willing to overlook this stuff as long as their representatives are willing to continue to pander to their religious "values".
Values like Buttars' good old-fashioned racism are alive and well, thinly veiled beneath a modicum of social acceptability.
You can't outlaw assholes. Well, I guess you could. But then guys like this would be even more full of shit.

in reality the plan was to wound buttars to prevent his opposition to passage of the slc f*a*g marriage registry, and to run him out of office to bring discipline to anyone opposing f*a*g power elite.
