We love going to Marie's Crisis in Greenwich Village as a jumping off point. On past visits, we've had trouble, however, finding a spacious gay dance club playing good music. We're pretty eclectic in our tastes, so I don't think we're being too picky. I'm interested in learning what people's opinions are of places to go and if there are any special events happening at any of the clubs over the long Memorial Day holiday weekend.

Overall, the number of spacious dance clubs has dwindled significantly in NYC over the past 10 years, sorry to say. Used to be that commercial and industrial neighborhoods were peppered with cavernous halls of pumpin' techno. Since the gentrification and housing craze of the Rudy-Bloomie era, many formerly industrial nabes have been converted to "mixed use" i. Other formerly "off limits" and "dangerous" areas are home to real estate pioneers and developers who, for some reason, want peace, quiet and drunk-free, p-free sidewalks at night.

As we say around here, the noyve! If anyone wants to see examples, rent the documentary "Paris is Burning," and then take a walk on the Christopher Street Piers. You can sign up for door guest lists and discount emails, too. We have something called Cabaret laws here. Establishments are required to have a license to allow dancing. This means that it is technically illegal to stand up and start dancing in a bar if it is quiet enough meaning not packed wall to wall with people. So, there aren't as many places with dancing as you'd expect. Also, we don't have the space that establishments in Cleveland , Columbus , Denver , etc.
