Lani was born in San Jose, Calif. Lani graduated from San Jose Sate University in After school, she went to work in the dental and medical fields. While working, she met the love of her life Richard Dick Guenther. Lani and Dick married May 21, They lived in Monte Sereno where Dick practiced dentistry and founded a dental insurance consulting company.
Lani was always interested in helping people and she spent time volunteering in the drug rehabilitation program at juvenile hall and for the suicide hotline.
Her hobbies were reading, shopping, cooking, entertaining, spending time with her family and traveling. With her husband, she traveled around the world. The couple's favorite spot was the Kona Coast in Hawaii.
After the children were grown, Dick semi-retired, they moved to Carmel Valley, Calif. They made many new friends. Those friends surrounded Lani during her illness and for their support we will be forever grateful. Lani was the essence of a lady, beautiful on the inside and out. She had a wonderful ability to share unconditional love, joy and laughter with everyone who was blessed to have known her.

Richard Dick E. Guenther DC, age 88 passed into his heavenly home peacefully on Wednesday, January 30, while at the E. York Hospice Care Center and surrounded by his family. He was born October 25, to Ed C. Guenther in Eldorado, Ohio. Guenther attended grade school in a one-room school house there in Eldorado for the first 6 grades, taught by two teachers who happened to be sisters.
He then attended and graduated from Monroe Jr. High School, just up the road. The Guenthers moved to Upper Sandusky, Ohio in Dick's freshman year of High school and he attended and graduated there.
He lettered in Baseball, Track, Basketball and Band, playing the trumpet. He also participated in the Glee Club and held roles in the school plays. During these formable years the Guenthers were very active in their local United Brethren Church. His mom and dad had key roles in the worship services as his dad led the singing and his mom played the piano. He attributes his own Christian development to his parents' guidance in his spiritual growth.
He graduated in That summer he attended a "Try-Out" camp for the Cincinnati Reds. This began a series of try-outs with a number of professional baseball teams and ignited a passion for baseball in him that would never die. Within that same semester Mr. Guenther enlisted in the U. There he learned X-ray and was soon teaching X-ray to other hospital corpsman.
It was during this time that Dick met his soon to be wife Gerry Newberry. They dated several months and were married on September 17, Guenther received an Honorable Discharge from the Navy in September of Because of a previous contact with Dr. Cecil R. Hook in Gainesville, FL. Guenther could then take over Dr. Hook's practice when he retired. Guenther then began a very rewarding practice in Gainesville where he treated all of his patients as friends and helped many maintain their health for years.
He practiced for 53 years, retiring in January of During his time as a physician, Dr. Guenther also was very active with his family of wife and three children, his church family at the First United Methodist Church and of course, his love of local sports, especially baseball where he attended almost every home game of the Florida Gators for many years.
He counted time spent in these areas as precious and necessary to a healthy balanced life. Guenther took a very pro-active role in promoting the Chiropractic profession. He was a member of the Florida Chiropractic Association from In that span he served as Records Officer and member of the Board of Directors for 10 consecutive years.
He served as President of the FCA, His wife, Gerry was equally as involved with their daughter's activities, as well as the boys'. Dick also served in the Gainesville Lions' Club for many years. Dick Guenther loved traveling with his family and visiting sites all over the United States and overseas.
One of his great loves was photography which resulted in thousands of pictures for all to enjoy, as well as his nickname 'Clicky Dick'.
He was loved by many and treated everyone with the respect God demanded of his Christian life. He will be greatly missed, but fondly remembered.
